St Thomas Library

St Thomas Library

St. Thomas Library is located in a small community west of Chambersburg above the St. Thomas Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.

On April 13, 1977, the St. Thomas Library opened its doors for the first time with 12 operating hours weekly, including Saturdays. It was located in the basement of the former United Methodist Church, across from the St. Thomas Elementary School.

The original collection consisted of 2,000 books plus magazines, records, art, and puzzles. In the first three weeks, the library had 45 patrons sign up for a library card.

On May 1, 2004, the St. Thomas Library moved to the second floor of the St. Thomas Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company. Today we have a collection of more than 14,000 books and are open 6 days a week; 31 hours a week.

The library staff is more than willing to obtain any book not available at St. Thomas Library, through interlibrary loan.
